The past few days in Shanghai have been relatively uneventful for Michael and me. We did start our Mandarin language classes last Wednesday night, and we had our second one on Saturday morning. We signed up for lessons at our local (Hongqiao) Shanghai Community Center. The lessons were supposed to be group lessons, and our particular time slots kept getting delayed beacsue only two people (Michael and me) were signed up for lessons. But, after pushing the class start date back three weeks in a row, they decided to go ahead with a class of 2--- us. So, we lucked out and have private Manadrin lessons twice a week for the next 7 weeks!
Other than our lesson Saturday morning, we really didn't do anything too notable this weekend. Wait, that's a lie... we did go to a place called Mao's Livehouse on Friday night to hear a local expat band, Lions of Puxi, play. Unfortunately, the opening bads (also expats) were so horrible we had to leave before the Lions played. Michael and I decided that we should start our own expat band here is Shanghai, because, apparently, the only requirement is that you are able to speak/scream/squawk/yell English. No actual rythym, harmony, style, tone, or vocal abilities are required! Yes, we are lacking musical instruments, but, come on, we have ROCKBAND!!!
